FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
1859

17 Ormond St. N

In 1854, the congration worshipped in the Town Hall but soon found it unsuitable. It is recorded that the congregation took steps to move out immediately "...after the council of the day had allowed an act of pugilism to be held there..." and in 1859 a brick church building was ercted at 17 Ormond St. N. The congregation remained there over 30 years, and as the number of worshippers grew, more pews were added and an addition was considered, but it was decided that a new church building would be necessary.
