ELLIOT HOUSE
1852

28 South St. S.
Port Robinson

This 2 1/2-storey brick house, early Victorian style, was built for Robert Elliot, a prosperous merchant who owned a general store in Port Robinson and who was Reeve of Thorold Township in 1857. The house features a large veranda with rare cast iron latticework verandah supports, six fluted chimneys, three french doors, and bracketed eaves. Inside, the rooms have 12' high ceilings with ornate plaster cornices; there are two nine-panelled pocket doors, 15" baseboards, three fireplaces, and a brick bake oven in the kitchen.
